Distance Education
Welcome to Distance Education.
We recognised that more senior students (Grade 12 and 13) should be given more independence to complete their academic study. This is a great way to prepare them for university. Our senior students are allowed other privileges such as no school uniform and allowances to leave the school campus at break and lunch times. This teaches the students responsibility and independence.
The Classroom
Our Distance Education classroom is a modern, progressive space, with flexible seating and laptop-based work. Although there are some classes for these students to participate in, such as PSHE, there is limited formal learning time. The students are mostly set targets at the start of the day, to help them to structure their class time, any work left incomplete is then set as homework. Distance Education allows students to investigate their desired life pathways, and overall studies are managed by designated ProEducation teachers who work with students to provide necessary support, timetable and goal-setting assistance. Teachers engage in daily communication with students and act as the point of call for external online centres.
Accreditation & Assessment
This department allows for students from Grade 12 to 13, to complete accredited courses, such as A Levels, in an independent study space. Their day is structured much like a school day, and there is always support available in the classroom from our Distance Education Manager.
Many Distance Education students study the A Levels provided by ProEducation School. Students who have completed British Curriculum IGCSE certification can go on to study A Levels. These qualifications provide students with credits which are needed for university entry. Students usually take 3 to 5 subjects over 1 to 2 years. A Levels are completed with Oxford Open Learning (OOL) tutors and resources, as well as tutorial support from ProEd tutors.
Extra-Curricular Opportunities
ProEd Distance Education students are encouraged to register for the International Youth Award and have the option to undertake additional ASDAN Elective subjects to develop personal interests and abilities. These courses are incorporated into their Distance Education school timetable, along with with ProEd Sport and Fitness activities and as-needed therapy support.
